Beaufort, North Carolina

Oceanside…
  1. Starting at the RW "BM" MO ("A") buoy from Offshore, Head straight up the channel between the buoys in about a NE direction (approx). At buoy G "15" the channel makes a slight turn to port, and another at G "19".

  2. This Inlet has been called an all weather Inlet. I don't know about that, but it is straight forward and easy. Tide and Current always have a role in Inlets, and Beaufort is no exception.

  3. At G "21" you will be behind the barrier island for protection. After R "20", there is a channel off to starboard starting with buoy R "2", heading to the east side of Radio Island.

  4. This leads you into Taylor Creek to the Town of Beaufort. If your destination is Morehead City, stay on the Main Channel to buoy G "27" and head in watching your buoys and markers. Again, watch the Tide and Current...it can run swiftly.

I have been thru this Inlet numerous times and usually head into Beaufort. I find the Inlet long, but comfortable navigating...except when I have a lot of current to contend with...but like always, stay alert! The Town Docks are great, along with their DockHouse Restaurant. You can Dock right in the town front, or anchor just a stones throw away. You can use the dinghy dock and stroll thru this delightful town.
...You'll feel like it's the 1960s and 70s....The views are gorgeous, and if your lucky, you might see wild horses across on the Barrier Island...Maybe head over to the Blackbeard Museum. They found one of his Pirate Ships not far from the Inlet. Actual artifacts are there on display, and you will be amazed at what they really had in those days.
