Block Island, Rhode Island

Oceanside…
  1. Starting at the RW "MP" MO ("A") buoy from Offshore, head in a NE direction (approx) to Buoy GR "BIS".

  2. Head for the R "2" buoy off Block Island in a NE direction (approx). Block Island is usually shrouded in fog, so a Chartplotter and Radar come in very handy.

  3. From the R "2" buoy head in a SSE direction (approx), keeping in the channel between G "5" and the Jetty to the south. Watch your depth and shoaling from either side on your way in.
The depth is reported to be around 11 feet.

  4. Staying in the channel, go between buoys G "7" and R "8" and also further on, keep the R "8A" and the R "10" on your starboard side.

  5. At buoys G "11" and R "12" you are in the Great Salt Pond harbor. There are plenty of moorings to tie up to...or you may want to dock at the many marinas here. There is also plenty of room to Anchor (holding is not that great in winds above 18-20 knts). The Marinas have Tender service for your convenience while Anchored, or you can use your own dinghy and tie up at the Dinghy Docks.

I have been here many times, and find the lure of Block Island to be compelling. They call Block Island, the Bermuda of the North...I agree. From the moment you step ashore, you can rent bikes, mopeds... take a taxi into Town....take a private Historical tour of Block Island...the things you can do are unending. Parties everywhere, Cozy quiet beaches beckon you...Pubs, Restaurants, Shopping...Trust me, you'll be tired by the end of the day...but wait...Don't miss the Nightlife!!
