Cape May, New Jersey
Oceanside…
-
Starting at the RW "CH" MO ("A") buoy from Offshore, head NNW (approx) to bouy R "6" then R "8".
-
There is a lot of Commercial traffic to look out for, but there is plenty of room to keep away. The Tide and Current are very significant here...I would not run against it if I didn't have to.
-
After R "8" continue to Brown Shoal light, keeping it to port and pick up R "10" where this channel will take you deep into Delaware Bay.
-
There is an alternative route....going into Cape May Harbor and heading up the Cape May Canal. There is a fixed bridge with 55' clearance to restrict you, if you happen to need more clearance. The Current in the harbor really throws you around so be alert. A Coast Guard station is in to the south, and I have seen boats anchor there. There is plenty of Marinas and dockage available. Another nice place to wait out a storm.
I have been thru here, and as I mentioned...going with the Tide and Current from the Inlet, you can make the C and D Canal in no time. There are marinas in the C and D also.
A look down the C & D Canal | Delaware Bays Power Plant, with plenty of Traffic |
