New York Harbor, New York

Oceanside…

A note..
a) Heavy Commercial traffic abound here, from all sorts of Freighters to Oil Tankers.
b) Security Zones have been set-up. Mariners should use caution and get all up to date information before venturing in the Harbor

  1. Starting at the RW "A" MO ("A") buoy from Offshore, head NW (approx) to buoys G "1" and R "2". Continue between the buoys, staying in the channel (Ambrose Channel).

  2. At buoys G "9" and R "10" the channel turns to starboard to a North heading (aprox).

  3. Head under the bridge thru "The Narrows", keeping a watchful eye. Tides and Currents have a great effect in the Harbor so stay alert and be cautious. There is plenty of traffic around.

  4. You can use the buoys R "22" to R "28" to bring you in, and then G "29" and G "31" to get you to the tip of Manhattan.

  5. To the right is the East River that goes along Manhattans East side, or stay to the left in the Hudson River and follow Manhattans West side. Watch you tides and Currents. They influence you quite a bit. Further up on Manhattans West side, (about 79th street) you will have a mooring field that you can tie up to for a fee. Now you can explore Manhattan at your leisure! Enjoy!

The East River going North brings you into Hell Gate, where you will find treacherous currents that are very dangerous. Mariners should take extra caution and go at slack tides. The East River continues and heads east into the Long Island Sound between Long Island, New York and Connecticut. Following the Sound east will bring you to Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and beyond.
