Sapelo Sound, Georgia
Oceanside…
-
Starting at the RW "S" buoy from Offshore, you head NNW (approx) to the R "2" buoy.
-
Then turn to NW (approx) to get to the G "3" and G "5". The buoys get a little closer together, but a Chartplotter and Radar sure comes in handy.
-
Follow it thru to the R "6" and R "8" and R "10". These buoys get changed a lot and there could be some shoaling.
-
The Tide and Current play a big role here so keep a good lookout. You can catch the ICW just a bit inside the Inlet. This is not a good Inlet in rough weather, but on a good day, it is a pleasure.
I used this Inlet a few days after a Hurricane went by. I was in Thunderbolt Marina in Savannah, and decided not to go out the Wassaw Sound because I felt it would be too rough. Instead I headed down the ICW to give the Ocean another day to settle down. Just before Sapelo Sound, I headed up the Wahoo River for an over night stay on the hook. That extra day allowed the Ocean to lay down nicely and made that Inlet a pleasure.
If you are heading in from the Ocean, you can head north on the ICW, and you will see "Wahoo River" off to the left. It has no buoys going in, but there is plenty of water and a wonderful anchoring area as the river turns to port...What a view!
